The Pegasys Files! The DVD Chronicles. 08/18/2003

In late 1999 Marcus Peblo was born - the crowned jewel of the RobotPegasys Empire. An animated saga was inspired and a journey began. Featuring Dazzling imagery and original music, the series was hailed "ground breaking" by some, but hated and misunderstood by others.

Soon the episodes grew more complex in animation and design. Within months the series outgrew the limits of the Internet. Refusing to simplify the RobotPegasys standard of animation, a more effective means of distribution was necessary. Hence....the Marcus Peblo saga DVD idea, dubbed "MYSTERY GIFT" was conceived!

But with all great challenges come greater obstacles. Screens of hieroglyphic code filled the computer screen on multiple occasions signaling cause for alarm. The "Blue Screen of Death" surprise appearances would hinder progress for sometimes weeks. With me running an old duel pentium 3 450 MHz with Windows NT4 and a half baked service pack, it didn't help the situation!

At one point I dreaded restarting my computer for fear that it wouldn't reboot. I was forced to face the fact that my machine, that was once a ferocious beast, was now a dinosaur fossil! My only other option was using my laptop which had a curse on it called Windows Millennium. I only had 5 episodes done and I wanted 11 on the DVD. Time was running out and RobotPegasys was only a one man operation.

Enough was enough! I decided to leave my "9 to 5" job doing mutli media and jump head first into my life long dream. I dedicated almost all of my free time into doing what I always loved. Somehow I managed to streamline my animation process by working on multiple episodes at one time. I would do two or three scenes from each chapter every day. While working I would go into a semi-trance like state and emerge hours later with finished product. By mid June the impossible happened, 35 minutes of magical animation was completed.

The creative part was done, now I had to focus on the technical aspect, getting this stuff onto a DVD master for replication. At first I tired to use myDVD, but that product proved to be nothing more than a "toy". A serious DVD authoring package would cost me. Luckily for me I got an e-mail from Sonic Solutions about reelDVD, a product they claimed could produce professional grade disks. On sale at a discounted rate, the $500 price tag was a steal!

I decided to encode at the highest possible bitrate for maximum clarity and color depth. The results where simply breathtaking. My only gripe was that now I wanted better sound quality, fidelity that would live up to the DVD spec. My good friend David Ellis donated his services for digitally remastering and remixing the audio. New dialog tracks, narration and one catchy theme song made me one happy camper.

Everything was done, but I still wasn't finished. I kept on working to add more features to the DVD. David did the same. I completed an additional 55 minutes of bonus content and then we added multiple audio tracks. The extras almost exceeded the storage capacity of the Digital Video Disk! With victory in the air, all that was left to do was burn a perfect master disk. Our previous attempts were disastrous because we were using cheap media!

I brought every high quality brand DVD-R I could find and burned a couple of master disks. I handed out copies to my friends, so that they could check for any skips or errors I could have overlooked. After a few days of folks thoroughly watching the DVD, I sent it out to get it replicated. It would take three long weeks before the shipment would arrive at my door step.
On July 22, 2003 the packages arrived! Arriving a few days earlier than expected, I was pleasantly surprised.

Some neighbors wondered what was in those boxes and I didn't bother to tell them. Never count your eggs before they hatch.

There were 18 boxes in all. 60 DVD's in each package. 60 x 18 =1080!
I had nightmares about getting all of these DVD's and none of them working, so I frantically ripped open the first container! What's this? Four more packages inside of the main box....

....Just what I was looking for! That night I had to watch "Mystery Gift" at least 10 times. To my amazement the episodes became more enjoyable each time around.

The summer is almost over and I now have 1000 plus DVD's in my basement. Was my work done in vain? Will I sell any DVD's? Will I continue to work on Marcus Peblo? Only time will tell. But one thing is for sure, "The Mystery of the Kubluka lives on!" LOL. Oh yeah...the Marcus Peblo DVD is available in my online store or by check or money order. Buy a copy and support the Robot, You won't be sorry.:-)
